Life in the mountains is always exciting, especially during the transition seasons of fall and spring. Our high elevation and cooler temps can mean we see snow long before surrounding areas. The higher elevations in the southern most portion of Garrett County into Oakland saw just a glimpse of snow flurries last week, but the entire county was blanketed Sunday evening, leaving almost 4 inches of snow around the Deep Creek Lake area! And while we're always excited to see snow, the first snow is always a special experience, whether you're ready for it or not. October weather at Deep Creek Lake can vary every year, but we generally see temps soaring into the 70s, sunshine, rain, and yes, even snow. Needless to say, we were super excited for the first snow, and even more excited about how much we received! Late fall snow is generally short lived without the constant cold of winter, but we can absolutely expect snow any time the conditions call for it. This snow was especially beautiful because we still have so many colorful leaves on the trees!
If the snow has you itching to plan your winter getaway, start planning your trip today! We have fantastic slopeside rental homes and plenty of homes in the nearby Wisp Resort area. If you're not up for zipping down the mountain, we have plenty of cozy cabins or secluded homes to enjoy a weekend away from the world. Don't forget we're also still offering your 3rd night free on more than 60 homes now through December 14!
