Fall

Ironically, now that summer has officially ended and fall has begun, we’ve had the most beautiful weather! The sunshine during the day coupled with the cool nights is the perfect weather needed for vibrant leaf colors. The leaves around the lake have already begun their colorful fall transition and should peak around early October. While you can still enjoy the lake usually through September and October, fall is a great time to experience some of the season activities we love the most!

Cove Run Corn Maze - Corn mazes are a fall staple. They’re fun, exciting, and a great outdoor activity for all ages. Going on its 17th season, the Cove Run Corn Maze has a new pattern each year, usually representing a specific message or organization. This year, the maze was designed for The Dove Center, a local shelter for women and children. In addition to navigating the maze, you can also pet and feed adorable animals, play the duck racing day, and take hay rides!

Autumn Glory Festival at Deep Creek LakeAutumn Glory Festival - An absolute Garrett County favorite, the annual Autumn Glory Festival will be celebrating its 50th year this October! This 5-day events has everything you need to satisfy every fall craving, featuring two parades, a pumpkin race, multiple craft & vendors shows, and so, so much more. This year, Autumn Glory will be October 11-15, which is generally when the fall leaves at their peak. In short - add it to your list.

Take a Driving Tour - The best part about the driving tours? It’s a rain or shine, warm or cold afternoon of beautiful leaves. The routes are specifically mapped for scenic driving and colorful views. There are a few to choose from depending on your time, but most of them pass by or are near to restaurants and shops. Garrett County is an incredible scenic place to visit and live, so driving along the rural landscape is an excellent way to get acquainted and find a deeper appreciation for nature.

Explore the State Parks (Again!) - With so many colorful leaves on the trees and the ground, our state parks are even more scenic than usual. Garrett County is home to several state parks, including a brand new one! Even if you’ve explored them before, everything has a different glow during autumn, so it’s definitely worth a revisit. Don’t forget to take photos!
