Whether you’re planning a special Mother’s Day trip or just happen to be around for Mother’s Day weekend, there’s plenty to do at Deep Creek Lake!
While we can’t promise perfect weather (hey, it’s spring!), we can definitely give you lots of great ideas to do, rain or shine!

Satisfy Her Sweet Tooth – Chocolate and sweets may be more associated with Valentine’s Day, but trust us, local made goodies are a fantastic gift for any and every occasion. The Copper Kettle Popcorn Factory, located beside the Lakeside Creamery, has a wide array of salty and sweet treats. Their insanely delicious milk chocolate is a top favorite, and they even have chocolate covered potato chips! You can also get several flavors of popcorn and even watch them make some! Another sweet stop is Deep Creek Sweets, located in The Fort. Everything from cookies to fudge to chocolates, it’s all there and all delicious. The benefit of buying from a local shop is that it’s only something you’ll find right here at the lake.

‘Flower’ Her with a Bouquet – Perhaps the most common (but always lovely) gift is a bouquet of flowers. If you’re looking to get mom a bouquet a little more personalized than what you’ll find at grocery stores, check out a few of our local spots! Clara’s Garden Florist recently opened in downtown Oakland and offers beautiful arrangements. Another local florist is Green Acres Flower Basket, and they deliver!!

Take Her Shopping – What better way to spend a rainy day than exploring some great local shops! If you’re looking for the perfect gift or treating mom to a day on the town, there is plenty to do and a lot to explore. Schoolhouse Earth is a great place to start your day, located just a few minutes north of the lake, and filled to the brim with unique items. Everything from garden statues to wind chimes to jewelry. If you’re looking to commemorate your stay with some Deep Creek Lake memorabilia, stop into Bear Creek Traders and check out their neat store! Featuring so much more than just DCL gear, you can find just about anything. In downtown Oakland, you’ll find multiple antique shops to browse through, Rudy’s clothing store, a book store, a café…plenty of browsing and buying all within the same two blocks!

Take Her Out – If you’re scouring Deep Creek Lake trying to pick a great place to eat, we have some bad news…they’re all pretty great! Eat overlooking the lake at Ace’s Run or Dutch’s at Silver Tree, grab some amazing pizza at Mountain State Brewing Company or Brenda’s Pizzeria, or stop by a specialty place like Deep Creek Seafood or Moonshadow Cafe. Our area has an eclectic mix of eateries and we highly encourage you try them all!

Take a Scenic Family Photo – Don’t let the rain keep you from documenting your weekend!! Pack those umbrellas and raincoats and get out…or stay in. Take a group photo with roaring Muddy Creek Falls in the background, pose in front of the lake, or take a big group photo inside your home in front of the fireplace! It doesn’t matter where you go, if it’s raining or the sun the shining, your photos will last a lifetime and will always have those memories associated.

We hope that everyone enjoys this Mother’s Day! It’s going to be a fantastic weekend here at the lake, and we hope you get to try some of our favorite spots out.
