Experience the Beauty of Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County on Foot!
Garrett Trails is a local organization of volunteers dedicated to preserving a network of trails throughout Garrett County and around Deep Creek Lake. They strive to highlight the history and natural landmarks that makes our area so magnificent. With over 35 trails listed on their website, there is a trail for everyone young and old. Plus, Garrett Trails is working to expand the current 130 mile trail system.
Their website has a complete list of all the trails with topographical maps highlighting the paths, the distance, difficulty level, description, and directions to the trailhead. Some trails are inside our quaint small towns, such as Accident and Friendsville, while other trails blaze through our numerous state parks, such as Swallow Falls and New Germany. The trails are a mix of paved blacktop, gravel, natural outcroppings, wooden structures and bridges, or simple dirt paths through the trees. Pick up a full color brochure highlighting the most popular trails around Deep Creek Lake at multiple locations including the Visitor’s Center in McHenry.
As a non-profit organization founded in 1999, they except donations on their website and feature the “Adopt-A-Trail” program. Please visit the website for additional details.
