The Garrett County Roads Department recently announced a scheduled road closure on Oakland Sang Run Road that will begin June 12 and most likely end September 1. The road will be closed just north of the Mayhew Inn Road intersection as the roads crew replaces a bridge. This extended closure shouldn’t affect most lake traffic or visitors, only those who are staying or live in the immediate vicinity between Mayhew Inn Road and Shingle Camp Road. The biggest impact for lake-goers will be those staying on Stockslager Road or Sandy Beach Lane, who will have to drive North and connect to Rt. 219 in McHenry before traveling South. Oakland Sang Run Road is usually a back road route for most vacation travelers, but it is the access road to Swallow Falls State Park, Herrington Manor State Park, & Garrett State Forest further south of the closure, so you’ll want to double check your routes and directions and make sure you’re connecting to Oakland Sang Run Road from Mayhew Inn Road or Bray School Road if coming from the lake area.
If traveling on Oakland Sang Run Road, use the following detours:
Traveling north bound on Oakland Sang Run Road:
– Go east (turn right) onto Mayhew Inn Road to Route 219 (Garrett Highway)
Traveling south bound on Oakland Sang Run Road:
– Go east (turn right) onto Shingle Camp Road
– Go north (turn left) onto Wisp Mountain Road
– Go east (turn right) onto Overlook Pass

If you’re staying in a rental on top of the mountain or in between Mayhew Inn Road and Shingle Camp Road and wanting to visit some of the parks, just make sure you head towards the lake and Rt. 219 and use the directions from that route. If you have any questions about your rental’s location or need directions around the detour, feel free to call our office!
